Description

This lecture traces the evolution of construction techniques, from the vault inherited from the Romans to the great metal structures of the 19th century. It highlights the role of Gustave Eiffel with the Garabit viaduct and the Eiffel Tower, followed by Paul Bodin?s innovation with the Viaur viaduct and its "cantilever" design. Using digital simulations, the operation of these structures will be analyzed in real time, illustrating the distribution of forces and the genius of yesterday?s builders. Finally, a parallel will be drawn with modern structures such as the Millau viaduct, highlighting the rich heritage and scientific wealth of our regions.
