Description
Quelle richesse !

Photo exhibition. The story behind these photographs: the first edition of the project, "Vies de Villages #1", took place in 2018, at the invitation of the Chemins de Photos festival in the Aude region, followed in 2021 by "Vies de Villages #2" in Landos (43) and "Vies de Villages #3" in the commune of Saint-Paul de Tartas (43).
At the end of the two-year health crisis linked to Covid, Marie-Laure MUGNIER, mayor of Saint-Paul de Tartas, wanted to offer the local population a unifying cultural project aimed at all the inhabitants of her commune, regardless of age, and whether they were permanent residents or second homes (this precision is useful for a commune with 50% secondary residents). Indeed, Covid had undermined social life, here as elsewhere, and the "Vies de Villages" project met this need for a collective and participative project, free for all.
The idea of keeping a "social archive" of the commune's population at the beginning of the 21st century also made sense. In this respect, the visual for this third edition of Vies de Villages is that of an inhabitant of Saint-Paul who was about to celebrate her 101st birthday and who sadly passed away at the beginning of March 2025: Odette.
For 6 months, the photographer went out to meet all the inhabitants, photographing their daily activities and writing the social history of the commune day by day: in the woods, in the homes of the inhabitants, in their workplaces, in the village bar-restaurant "Chez La mère Graille", in the fields, in the farms, in the gardens, during collective acidities, major events in the commune? He took several thousand snapshots of the inhabitants, gradually building up a global vision of this community.
The profiles of the individuals photographed are extremely varied: farmers, teachers, a great reporter, a publisher, a young photographer, an employee of a regional health agency, a tax official, a former tailor who is now the creator of a perfume, a former employee of the RATP, a bellringer, Ukrainians, a former rally champion? What variety! What richness!
