Sur l’Île Lord Howe, qui a tout d’une île paradisiaque, isolée au large de l’Australie, des oiseaux sans vie révèlent pourtant une sombre conséquence des activités humaines à l’échelle mondiale. À travers la série de photographies Still (immobile), Mandy Barker se consacre aux Puffins à pieds pâles dont les populations sont très affectées par la pollution. Affamés et alourdis par l’ingestion des nombreux morceaux de plastique pêchés en mer par les adultes, les jeunes puffins n’arrivent pas à prendre leur envol et finissent par mourir. En anglais, « FFS » évoque aussi bien une abréviation du nom de l’espèce photographiée que celle d’une exclamation familière de frustration, ici provoquée par les drames récurrents liés à la pollution plastique.

On Lord Howe Island, an isolated paradise off the coast of Australia, lifeless birds reveal a grim consequence of global human activity. Mandy Barker?s series of photographs, Still, focuses on Pallid-footed Shearwaters, whose populations are severely affected by pollution. Starved and weighed down by the numerous pieces of plastic caught at sea by adults, the young shearwaters are unable to take flight and eventually die. In English, "FFS" evokes both an abbreviation of the name of the species photographed and a familiar exclamation of frustration, here provoked by the recurrent tragedies linked to plastic pollution.

Die leblosen Vögel auf Lord Howe Island, einer abgelegenen, paradiesischen Insel vor der Küste Australiens, offenbaren jedoch eine düstere Folge der weltweiten menschlichen Aktivitäten. In ihrer Fotoserie Still (Still) widmet sich Mandy Barker den Blassfußpuffins, deren Populationen stark von der Umweltverschmutzung betroffen sind. Die jungen Papageientaucher sind hungrig und schwerfällig, weil sie die vielen Plastikteile, die von den Erwachsenen aus dem Meer gefischt werden, verschlucken.
