Son of Charles VII, baptized in Bourges and deeply linked to Berry, Louis XI (1423-1483) left his mark on his era with energetic policies, modernized administration and a strong desire to build a new kingdom. The exhibition explores the relationship between the king and his native region, through such key events as the Bien Public war, the "detestable commocion" and the founding of the University of Bourges. Between legends and historical realities, the archive documents, charters, seals, works of art and objects presented reveal the complexity of a monarch who was pragmatic, political and a patron of the arts, whose actions go beyond myth to shed light on the richness of an often misunderstood reign.
