Description

In the immediate post-war period, the remnants of the Second World War are everywhere in the Normandy landscape.
In La Manche, as elsewhere, local populations had to demonstrate their ingenuity to rebuild their daily lives.
For some, the materials and buildings left behind by the Americans and Germans are a constraint, for others a godsend. Military equipment, ruined buildings: anything can potentially be used. System D was put in place.
This talk looks at the many ways in which these materials and buildings were reused in rural life, from corrugated iron sheets turned into sheep shelters to blockhouses transformed into wine-ageing cellars.
Virginie Guillotin (mediator at the Ferme-musée du Cotentin) and Mathieu Delamotte (mediator at the Batterie d?Azeville) will lead the conference. This event is linked to the exhibitions : "Système D-Day" at the Ferme-musée du Cotentin (Sainte-Mère-Église),
"War and Meadow" at the Azeville Battery.
