Description

"Emerging infectious diseases – how can we act effectively?" Lecture by Jean-Christophe AUDONNET, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and holder of a PhD in molecular bacteriology. Former research director at Merial and Boehringer Ingelheim. The fight against infectious diseases is a never-ending challenge, with situations becoming increasingly complex. It is now impossible to predict precisely where, when and on which target species an emerging or re-emerging virus will cause the next pandemic or panzootic. Over the last 20 years, all major infectious events in humans and domestic animals have occurred in unpredictable ways, veritable 'black swans' in health terms. Given this uncertainty, how can we anticipate and better prepare for the future? Jean-Christophe AUDONNET is a veterinary doctor with a PhD in molecular bacteriology. He also holds a diploma in Molecular Virology from the Institut Pasteur in Paris. After spending 3 years in the United States developing vaccine vector technology based on poxviruses, Jean-Christophe Audonnet held various R&D positions from 1992 to 2021 at Rhône Mérieux, then Merial and finally Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health: Exploratory Research and External Innovation, Research Strategy and Strategic Alliances (vaccinology, immunology, protein expression technology platforms), External Innovation and Europe-Asia Research Strategy, to establish partnership collaborations for R&D projects, set up an R&D laboratory in China and supervise associated R&D projects.
Jean-Christophe Audonnet was Coordinator of the European IMI ZAPI project (consortium of 20 partners) from March 2015 to July 2021, which developed new platforms for the industrial production of vaccines to effectively combat emerging zoonoses.
