Une plongée captivante dans un épisode marquant de l’histoire locale. En mai 1562, peu de temps après le début de la 1ère Guerre de Religion, 13 jeunes protestants ont été noyés dans la Théols, la rivière qui borde Ste-Lizaigne, par la population locale. Depuis, quelques lignes succinctes dans des articles de journaux ou de revues rappellent de temps à autre que Ste-Lizaigne, petite bourgade tranquille, a néanmoins connu au cours de son histoire un épisode particulièrement dramatique. Mais, curieusement, jusqu’à l’an dernier, celui-ci n’avait jamais été étudié de manière approfondie. La conférence s’attache à reconstituer, le plus impartialement possible, ce qui a pu réellement se passer au cours de cette nuit tragique et comment, dans un climat exacerbé de provocations et de peurs….

A captivating dive into a significant episode in local history. In May 1562, shortly after the start of the 1st War of Religion, 13 young Protestants were drowned in the Théols, the river bordering Ste-Lizaigne, by the local population. Since then, a few brief lines in newspaper or magazine articles have occasionally reminded us that Ste-Lizaigne, a quiet little town, has nevertheless experienced a particularly dramatic episode in the course of its history. But curiously, until last year, it had never been studied in depth. The conference aims to reconstruct, as impartially as possible, what really happened on that tragic night and how, in a climate of heightened provocation and fear….

Ein fesselnder Einblick in eine prägende Episode der lokalen Geschichte. Im Mai 1562, kurz nach Beginn des Ersten Religionskriegs, wurden 13 protestantische Jugendliche von der örtlichen Bevölkerung in der Théols, dem Fluss, der an Ste-Lizaigne grenzt, ertränkt. Seitdem erinnern einige knappe Zeilen in Zeitungs- oder Zeitschriftenartikeln von Zeit zu Zeit daran, dass Ste-Lizaigne, ein kleines, ruhiges Städtchen, im Laufe seiner Geschichte dennoch eine besonders dramatische Episode erlebt hat. Seltsamerweise wurde diese Geschichte bis zum letzten Jahr jedoch nie eingehend untersucht. Der Vortrag versucht, so unvoreingenommen wie möglich zu rekonstruieren, was in dieser tragischen Nacht wirklich geschah und wie in einem Klima der Provokationen und Ängste….

Een boeiende kijk op een belangrijke episode in de plaatselijke geschiedenis. In mei 1562, kort na het begin van de 1ste Godsdienstoorlog, werden 13 jonge protestanten door de plaatselijke bevolking verdronken in de Théols, de rivier die aan Ste-Lizaigne grenst. Sindsdien herinneren enkele korte regels in kranten of tijdschriften ons er af en toe aan dat Ste-Lizaigne, een rustig stadje, toch een bijzonder dramatische episode in zijn geschiedenis heeft meegemaakt. Maar vreemd genoeg was deze episode tot vorig jaar nooit grondig bestudeerd. Deze conferentie wil zo onpartijdig mogelijk reconstrueren wat er die tragische nacht echt gebeurd is en hoe, in een klimaat van verhoogde provocatie en angst….

Desde entonces, unas breves líneas en artículos de periódicos o revistas nos recuerdan de vez en cuando que Ste-Lizaigne, pequeña y tranquila ciudad, ha vivido sin embargo un episodio particularmente dramático en el curso de su historia. Pero curiosamente, hasta el año pasado, este episodio nunca había sido estudiado en profundidad. Esta conferencia pretende reconstruir, con la mayor imparcialidad posible, lo que realmente ocurrió aquella trágica noche y cómo, en un clima de provocación y miedo exacerbados….

Nel maggio del 1562, poco dopo l'inizio della Prima Guerra di Religione, 13 giovani protestanti furono annegati nel Théols, il fiume che costeggia Ste-Lizaigne, dalla popolazione locale. Da allora, alcune brevi righe di articoli di giornale o riviste ci ricordano di tanto in tanto che Ste-Lizaigne, una cittadina tranquilla, ha comunque vissuto un episodio particolarmente drammatico nel corso della sua storia. Ma curiosamente, fino all'anno scorso, questo episodio non era mai stato studiato a fondo. Questo convegno si propone di ricostruire, nel modo più imparziale possibile, ciò che è realmente accaduto in quella tragica notte e come, in un clima di accentuata provocazione e paura….
