Sandra Français explores her own movement as a geological mechanism capable of translating the formation of the strata of stories that shape it. With Basalte, she stages a fictional future in which a machine records choreographic data in order to create an object in anticipation of an eventual blackout (a total loss of data). This exercise highlights the limits of the machine when it comes to interpreting certain aspects of dance, particularly those that have to do with feeling or interiority. In the studio, in a process of mathematical rigor, the artist entrusts his dance to a motion capture device that visually transposes the choreographic data into digital volumes.
