During the Second World War, Edward Kennedy was a war correspondent for the international Associated Press. On May 7, 1945, at 2:41 a.m., he witnessed the total and unconditional surrender of German forces on the Western and Eastern fronts in Reims. However, as the surrender deed provided for the definitive cessation of fighting on both fronts at 11:01 p.m. the following day, and as Stalin demanded the signature, it was decided to wait 36 hours before divulging the information, on pain of sanctions. However, Edward Kennedy broke the military embargo, destabilizing an organization negotiated between Truman, Churchill and Stalin.
