8, 12 and 18 km. Wastelands, called “Essarts”, were used as pasture. They were bordered by a very small area of forest. During the summer, several shepherds herded cows and sheep. Each municipality had made fords for watering and washing. Rivalries clashed regularly with various municipalities Bouilly Souligny Villery, and Javernant Sommeval about the course of the herds, which were not allowed to graze or use fords if they did not belong to the village.
