CYCLO – BALLON – Le Mans

Le circuit débute dans la cité Plantagenêt, cœur historique du Mans. Prenez la route direction Coulaines où vous passerez à proximité de l’église Saint-Nicolas, classée monument historique. A votre arrivée à Sainte Jamme sur Sarthe, vous découvrirez la cité ouvrière des anciennes fonderies d’Antoigné qui fût un pôle d’activité économique important jusqu’à sa fermeture en 1986. Le chemin du retour dans la campagne mancelle vous mènera au château de Ballon. Il se présente aujourd’hui sous la forme d’un donjon entouré d’une enceinte et de fossés. Il accueille un superbe jardin et une magnifique roseraie. A signaler sur la boucle proposée en option : le prieuré de Vivoin, centre culturel de la Sarthe, les halles de René (1535) ainsi que l’ancien prieuré de Mayanne à Dangeul.

The circuit starts in the Plantagenêt city, the historical heart of Le Mans. Take the road towards Coulaines where you will pass close to the Saint-Nicolas church, classified as a historical monument. When you arrive in Sainte Jamme sur Sarthe, you will discover the working town of the former foundries of Antoigné which was an important economic activity pole until its closure in 1986. The way back in the Mancelle countryside will lead you to the castle of Ballon. It is nowadays in the form of a keep surrounded by an enclosure and ditches. It has a superb garden and a magnificent rose garden. On the loop proposed as an option: the priory of Vivoin, cultural centre of the Sarthe, the halles de René (1535) and the former priory of Mayanne in Dangeul.
