This stroll through the heart of Yvetot sheds light on a little-known page of local history: the major role played by the capital of Pays de Caux in the development of textile factories, particularly those related to linen. Thanks to its special privileges, Yvetot was able to experiment more freely than Rouen, allowing innovative techniques to flourish, including pond-water dyeing, a local specialty. The tour traces the evolution of know-how, from natural dyeing on wool to dyeing on bleached linen, whose excellence was recognized long before the work of botanist Dambourney. The walk also evokes the history of linen cultivation, the region?s factories and the legacy left behind by the Baons-le-Comte linen cooperative, testifying to the central place of linen in the identity of the Pays de Caux.
