Description
HORAIRES D'OUVERTURE

Works from the Beaux-Arts collection, in partnership with ARTESENS The representation of the human body in Western art is a fundamental subject. It shows how man has developed skilful techniques to represent human nature in minute detail, and how he has taken hold of the world.
By representing himself, man asserts his place in the world and nature that surrounds him, and competes, as creator, with the gods they once held to be the founders of nature and of himself. The body has long been associated with divinity, and artists have sought to represent their gods according to well-defined canons.
The canons of beauty have ranged from Greek beauty to the monstrous bodies we see in contemporary art today. Man in art and with art has, over time, become self-engendered, searching for the limits of the visible in every age. In addition to a display of emblematic works from its collections, the museum has teamed up with the Artesens association to complement the exhibition with two educational kits on Cézanne and Picasso.
Aimed at schoolchildren and disabled visitors alike, the kits focus on two major works: Les Grandes Baigneuses and Les Demoiselles d?Avignon, providing a lively way of exploring each of these works and getting to grips with the history of modern art. OPENING HOURS

OPENINGSTIJDEN
